Ezra Li Eismont
We Are Magic
January 2007

We Are Magic (Detail), 2007, Mixed Media on panel

As above, So below. The idea of Neters, or principles, idea forms, which precede their physical manifestation; qualities that extend beyond the physical realm into the realm of archetypes, undiluted by the weight of physicality is what led Eismont to the study of the sacred traditions of Tibet, in particular, the creation of Mandalas, or cosmic diagrams. Here is an art form that extends beyond mere representation of our physical realm, into the realm of spirit. Like the allegorical images of the alchemists and the mystics, the Mandala form holds something potent, something magical. It depicts the one story told over and over again, the journey from alpha to omega, beginning to end, from seed to fruit. It is the microcosm, encompassing all. It is a universal form, describing the universal process. Everything begins as a seed, and goes through a process of unfolding through time, growth, and final destruction. Our consciousness helps to guide us through this process of growth; our intent shapes the world around us. Thus we have the ability to mold reality with our thoughts and intentions. Put simply, this is magic, and this is what we are. Participating in the universality of these cosmic diagrams is how Ezra Li Eismont beautifully proliferates his relationship to reality.

Eismont has been a leading artist for his generation by exhibiting with countless Bay Area galleries and museums such as 111 Minna, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Upper Playground, Balazo Mission Badlands Gallery, Richmond Art center, Gallery A.D. in San Jose, I.C.U. Art in Los Angeles, not mention numerous warehouse art spaces. Examples of his work have appeared on flyers and album covers for local parties and groups such as the Bay Area Art Collective and Cat Five. He is staff artist for Thermal Recordings,Nutmeats Recordings, and Oaklyn records’Äô three Oakland based record companies. He has also published work in ANARCHY magazine (winter/spring 2005/2006) WIRED magazine (october 2003),PRINT Magazine (June/July 2001),and GRAFFITO (by Michael Walsh, 1996). Eismont's work resides in hundreds of private collections internationally.
